Week ending 25OCT2022

Monday AM - 3 miles w. GW at morning practice
PM - 5 miles, with 6 x 200 on six minute pace

Tuesday - 8 miles, with 2 x 5 minutes at threshold

Wednesday AM - 3 miles w. GW at morning practice
Afternoon - in a light rain with JH and KD, 5 miles.

Went to bed at 7:45.  Woke up at 6:30 but a fitful night of sleep, waking up sweating on occasion - so probably some fever.

Thursday afternoon - avoided the kids at practice given last night's events, but found the coaches and jogged with them.  9 miles.  Felt pretty good.

Friday - XC meet at NWOS.  7 miles.

Saturday - AM practice:  9 miles with GW on the Lac Amora loop.  Then up to Summit.

Sunday - went to the Rox on Sunday.  They are pretty bad.  Didn't get out for a jog until the evening and despite it being EOD, the run went well.  7.5 miles.

56ish on the week.  Some progress.  One month of thinners to go.

Week ending 18SEP2022

Well, not a week worth speaking of in running terms.  Long work days, high heat and humidity, and just being worked limited miles.  Hardly a training week, so I won't bother posting here the half arsed runs in the DR where it looked like I had gone for a swim more than a run.

I guess in another reality that would have been fine as I'd be resting up for a PPM but there was none of that this year because of the PE issue.  Also was supposed to play a gig with Spare Change on Saturday but COVID for a band member shit canned that too.

(side note - 3 guys under 2:10 in the PPA is pretty amazing)

The Dominican Republic trip was good from a work perspective.  These trips are educational - both in work but also in seeing other cultures.  Men at night at a table in the street playing dominoes.  Karaoke singers in front of high end restaurants.  Garbage everywhere.

After a long day to get back (a story unto itself in getting back from the DR) I escaped up to Summit County.  It was good to be back in the thin air, cooler temps, and low humidity.

Sunday I explored up the Ten Mile Creek trail out of Frisco.

Week ending 11SEP2022

Monday AM - hot.  6 miles with the kiddos.  Feeling the band effort from last night.  Yeah.

Tuesday afternoon - still hot.  8 miles with 10 x 100 in the middle over at BHMS.

Wednesday AM - had an athlete that needed to go in the AM so did some work at sub seven pace with them. 5.2 miles.

Thursday - 8 miles

Friday -

Saturday - 8 miles at Liberty Bell.  Kids had a blast.  After a few weeks of 80s and 90s, a drop into the 40s and 50s set them up for fast races.  PRs for nearly every kid.

Sunday - Dominican Republic.  Red eye here via Miami so I didn't sleep much.  Got out and it was expectedly hot and humid.  Probably not as bad as Singapore that time.  Certainly not as epic as Dubuque.  The ocean probably helps that.  I could only get five before I relented to no longer swimming in my own sweat.

The beach playa beauty of the Caribbean was very much offset with ... trash.

Another 50 something mile week.

Certainly thinking about how I am missing Pikes next weekend.  There is thought that I could have gone and done it - as in completed it, and there would have been some accomplishment in that.  But I also know I would have been greatly dissatisfied with such a result.  The loss of the training I had because of the PE's and where I am now ... I am not really to run that the way I'd like to.  I mean, I am nowhere need where I'd like to be but I am really far behind where I was.  It will be a process to get back to some semblance of fitness I was in.

Week ending 04SEP2022

Monday AM - 3 miles easy with GW at practice.
PM - 5 miles with the coaches easy.

Evening band.

Tuesday - 7 miles with 12 x 1 minute on, 1 minute off.  Hot.

Played the Broomfield Farmer's Market.

Wednesday AM - 3.1 miles easy at practice

PM - 5 miles

Thursday - sorta dead.  7 miles in the afternoon.

Friday - 7 miles at the Legacy Invite.

Saturday - 7.2 miles at practice.

Gig in the evening at Front Range

Sunday - 8.1 miles with JE (haven't seen him in 30 years?) over at Marshall Mesa.

Played a charity / memorial event at Broomfield Golf in the evening.  We were pretty tight on this one.  We do better I think when its outdoors, it is a scheduled event, and we are on two sets.

52 and change on the week.

Week ending 28AUG2022

Monday AM - up and out in the rain in Cleveland MS for an easy wake up 3 miles.

Pix from the hotel room (really):

PM - again, post a corporate outing.  Certainly not preferrerd, but manageable.  3.3 miles in the rain-ish, sweating so that I look like I am swimming, and did my first true workout of sorts in a while - at least since the lung diagnosis:  10 x 1 minute on, 1 minute off.   Ended up averaging sub 8 for a run, which hasn't happened in about a month.  Anc this new fangled watch tells me my resting HR this AM was 29.  I am not sure I believe that.  Apparently I got to 180 on the run for some of that whopping 6:20 stuff.   All that doesn't matter:  it felt good to spin the wheels a bit.

Tuesday AM - a bit of the second day drag.  3.2 miles in the AM for the wake up.  Typical conditions for here I guess.

Evening - 5 miles.  At least not raining.  Easy.
Can anyone answer why Strava doesn't automatically flag runs that have mile splits at better than 3:50 in the middle of a 5 miler?

Wednesday AM - 3 miles in the mist.

I guess Sage Canaday also dealt with pulomonary embolisms last year.  I need to dig into understanding his circumstances a bit more though.

Thursday - missed the AM.  Slept in.  Got out for six in the evening.  The rain cleared and the skies were blue so it felt stupid hot.  Did six by 2 minutes on full active rest.  Six miles

Friday - 4 miles slow in the AM in the humid again.  Shorts were soaked as they could be at the end of this one.  Had to wring them out before tossing them back into the luggage.

Saturday - Back in town and got in six at the Mountain Vista meet.  Easy.  Saw several of the CRUD folks who now coach for Cheyenne Mountain with SOD.

Fun in the evening up at Peculier (yes that is how they spell it) Ales.  Great brewery and location.

Sunday - tired legs.  6.4 miles to get 40 on the week.

This is ridiculous.

Sunday, August 21, 2022

Week ending 21AUG2022

Monday AM - 5.1 miles morning Eagle jogging.  Warm.

Afternoon practice - 5.4 miles with some weak ass hill strides

Tuesday afternoon - 8.1 miles.
Rain a ridiculous amount the AM.  That is great but for a bit it seemed like we were gonna head the way of 2012 again.

Wednesday AM - 3 miles easy with GW.
Afternoon 5.1 with a handful of fartlek builds

Thursday afternoon - 7 miles.  Hot.
Open Mic at Rails.

Played with TC on "Call Me the Breeze" and then did "Poor Life Choices," "Something in the Orange," and "Feathered Indians."

Friday - down in Westminster for a meet:  8 miles easy

Saturday AM practice - 9 miles.  Some strides at the end.

I am going to have to come to terms with beginning to get back out of my comfort zone again.  It has slipped to 8:30 and 8:40 miles.  I can tell my lungs ain't what they were, but I need to not really give a crap about that and just work.  It may never be what it was (it never is in fact) but I don't have to accept that I am what I am.

Sunday - travel.

After the welcome diner, got out for 5.7.  It was raining, which was nice but I would have been soaked in any case.  It is a different level of humidity here in the Delta.

Ended up with 56 and change on the week.  In many ways it was a progress week, better than the last few in terms of miles and even getting on the gas on occasion.  But I recognize it is is also a weak week.  But patience now.

Week ending 14AUG2022

Quite the article on burro racing.

Monday AM - 7 miles.  Hot.

Tuesday AM - 7.1 miles.  Hot.
PM 2.5 miles on Ridgeview with GW.

Wednesday afternoon - with JZ on North Star Mountain (sort wedged between Lincoln and Quandary and Silverheels).  Got up to about 13k feet.  My lungs suck right now (oh ha ha).

We were up there to get a summer visit into ES' resting spot.  Took a bit to find it so I was sure to get a GPS on it this time.   JZ and I ended up with about 4.3, with about 1500 of climbing.  Few things I love as much as spending time up high like this on a summer day with one my most favorite people.

Wednesday evening - band practice:

Thursday AM - 7 miles around practice.  IG showed up and that was nice.   Snake season still.
'

Eric S (Lead Feet) was in town so I was able to get to meet up with him for a beer at Rails.

Eric has Leadville next week and is gunning for his 9th finish. He'll get it.

Friday AM - 7.5 miles.  Best I felt in the lungs the last three weeks.  Hit the Hot Buttered Rum concert at Levitt (awesome venue) based on a recommendation from JT.  Missed taking the obligatory bird shot.

Saturday - 8 miles total around (mostly after) the TT for the kids.

Sunday - explored with TZ and @theragethatissage above Boreas Pass, heading up Black Powder Pass.  Beaut.

40 something on the week.  Still in a recovery mode, but moving along well.  Some good time at altitude - and this is the time for it.

On Wednesday I found out there the blood tests for any sort of genetic marker or predisposition to blood clotting came back negative.  The good news on that is I can get off the blood thinner protocol on a 3 month window - and don't have to take them for life (for now).  The bad news is we don't know why they happened anyway.  I am happier with this set of circumstances though.
