Burnout is scary. Fly too close to the sun and the wings get burnt. We all want to burn our wings off someday in a blaze of glory...but when? Also, most think of burnout as being over something, a mental block that an athlete just can't move past. The author seems to view it that way- as an issue of will or lack thereof. True burnout is very tangible and comes with life-changing physical problems, weakness and dysfunctions. Serious hormonal meltdown is something that no one wants, but we all edge towards as we explore the bottom of the well. Scary indeed...
