Mindset

Daughter comes home from XC meet.

Daughter  PR’d at the 5k distance, but was 2 seconds short of a time goal.

Daughter is very upset.

Daughter is upset in that fashion that is somewhat special to teenage daughters.

Mother listens emphatically to daughter.

Mother after listening a while asks , “I am sorry dear.  But it is just 2 seconds.  And you PR’d.  Why are you so upset about 2 seconds?”

Daughter gets more upset.

Mother (also wife) looks at me and says, “is it normal for runners to worry about 2 second like this?”

I nod.

Wife shakes head and mutters something intelligible.
