Week ending Christmas 2022

Monday - 6 miles with Greg.  Appropriately tired and sore after yesterday's fun.

Tuesday afternoon - tired.  7.2 miles easy and slow.

Wednesday - 8 miles with GW.

Thursday - front blew in last night and dropped the temps at a ridiculous rate.  Something like 30 plus degrees in an hour.

But got out with GW this AM.  We ended up with about six inches of snow.  I was about 15 below for the run.

It wasn't bad with the correct clothing.  6.4 miles.  The sun dogs were amazing.

Friday - another sub zero day.  6.4 miles, most with GW.

Saturday - 7 miles easy.

Sunday - Christmas and up in Fairplay.  Saw a beaver on the Mosquito Pass Road.  6.1 miles.

Not a great week but managed to keep knockin away despite wintry conditions.

2 weeks ending 18DEC2022

Week ending 11DEC2022 - a bunch of runs that brought me to 52 by Saturday.  Thought I might get 60 but I scooted out for a Tijuana trip (for work on Sunday) so I only ended up with 55 on the week.

Saturday night was fun over at Mother Tucker's.

But before that I had a gig over at Rails.

The week in Tajuana was a bunch of 3-4 mile treadmill runs.  Got back on Saturday and did nearly 20 with the boys on the re-ignited Solstice Slog.

So much fun.  Shit talked, goals set, challenged, laughs shared.

Need about 70 miles over the next dozen days to get 2500 on the year.

Week ending 04DEC2022

Monday - 4 miles.  Meh.
Tuesday - more meh.  Snowing.  Long work day.  Zero.
Wednesday - GW put a boot in my ass and I got out with him mid day. 6 miles. Another 4 on the ditch solo to round out the afternoon.
Thursday - another zero.
Friday - 6.4 miles,  Windy AF.  Like gusts of 50 mph.  Tried to keep it N/S so keep it to a cross wind v. a head or tail wind.

Saturday - 10.2 miles with GW and EC on Bobolink
Sunday - 10.1 miles in Broomstock.  Some with GW and GG

Managed 40 miles on the week, with a nice weekend but a rough week.

Week ending 27NOV2022

Monday afternoon in AZ - 8 miles.  Tired.

Tuesday mid day in AZ - 8 miles.  Moved pretty good towards the end with a couple clipping sub 7:30.

Wednesday - JZ and I hit the White Tank Regional Park.  Awesome day.   We decided we'd do this rather than blow money on a T-day 5k.  10 miles.

This guy wigged me out a bit tho.

Thursday - 7.2 miles.  Pushed a bit on the last mile and a quarter.   I was understandably tired.

Friday - drive home.  Long day.  Well, worked on some stuff in the car.

Saturday - back in CO.  10 miles.  Moved well even though I was a bit behind on hydration.  Gorgeous morning.

Sunday AM - mostly with GW.  7 miles.

50 on the week with a day off for travel.  Got some quality in there too with the warmer temps.

Monday, November 21, 2022

Week ending 20NOV2022

Monday afternoon - 6.3 miles
Tuesday afternoon - 3 miles.  Ugh.
Wednesday AM - 5 miles.
PM - 5 miles
Thursday - snowing - 9.4 miles
Friday - post snow, cold.  4 miles before the AZ road trip
Saturday - we hit AZ about 3AM.  It was early to then bolt over to NXR on the other side of PHX but it was worth it.  Watched the kiddos race, etc.  Got in about 4 and a half there in the races, etc.
Later in the afternoon, explored in Surprise a bit for another 5 and 3/4s.  Beautiful conditions this time of year.
Sunday - 7.2 miles with JZ around Surprise.

Week ended up at just over 50.  Nothing zippy this week but the runs in AZ were better than usual (nice temps and altitude difference for sure).

Thursday night was Rails Open Mic. It was pretty fun.  SG and I had planned to do some tunes together and when we got there Rob offered to sit in on drums.  Why the hell not?  It was a blast.

Later Sean and Andrew melted the whole effin' place as a two piece.

Rolled through 2200 miles at some point this week.

Week ending 13NOV2022

Monday afternoon.  Nine.  Nice.

Tuesday AM - 8.2 miles.  Nudged into some tempo on the last half dozen.

Wednesday AM - jogging around the track while kids did a workout.  4.2 miles.
PM - 3.7 on the ditch

Picked up this today.

Been eyeballing this style of guitar (Thinline Telecaster) for a bit.  Been drawn to the design with the F hole and I like the tone of the humbuckers v. single coils that are traditional for Teles.  Found a local one on Reverb after looking for a the better part of a year.  Some stats are the bottom of this post/

Thursday AM 4.1 miles on the ditch with GW
PM - 4 miles on the ditch

Friday AM - cold.  Well, not really but I am not used to the low 20s yet.  Did the loop with LF and caught up a bit.  8 miles.

Saturday AM - 10.3 miles.  A bunch of little runs that were around the practice the kids had.

Saturday night of course was RCPM,  Hit Moe's BBQ ahead of it, and there was a band in there.  It was LOUD.   Dude was crushing on the Marshall Peavy combo on that slick Les Paul.

Then it was over to the Gothic.  No Nick S on bass (not sure why) but they boys put on a clinic as usual.

Sunday - hurtin a bit but got in 8.4 to sweat out some of the revelry from last night.  Ended with 60 on the week.

Week ending 06NOV2022

A few rando things to start the week:

- Mark Plaatjes interview.  His story is amazing.  I had to look up what "necklacing" was.  Way more horrific than what I guessed.
- Centaurus boys XC at State.  9th at the mile.  6th at 2 miles.  2nd at the finish.  That is the way to do it.
- JT tried to get me out for Boulder XC race this Saturday and I bailed.  Excuses won that one.
- Why the hell have I not dug into Marcus King before this week?

Monday - up in Fairplay.  Did a seven mile loop down the pipeline, then up Breck Estates, back up the access road, out to the base of 663 at Ice Axe and then back up Slow as you'd expect for an outta shape old guy at 10k feet.

Tuesday - back down from the hills.  Gorgeous fall day.  10 miles.

Wednesday - 7 miles with some fartlek thrown in.

Thursday - 8 in the AM before the weather blew in.

Friday - snow and wind.  Meh.  Felt cruddy.  Cut it at 5 miles.

Saturday - 8 miles and some.  Mostly with practice.

Saturday night:  gig over at Mother Tucker's.

Sunday - 11 miles.

Ended with 56 ish on the week.  Eyeballed where I am on the year and its mid 2100.  It would seem that I would be dancing with 2500 if I manage at least 7 a day.

I definitely do not have the base that I used to - meaning, for a bit because of all the miles I had done in my 40s, I could still easily manage a 12 miler.  That is gone, and I need to earn it back.

Week ending 30OCT2022

A buzzer of a week.  Monday was a bust.  On it at 6AM, finished at 7:30PM and then band practice.  So that was a zero.  Tuesday was a seven, everything else was an 8 miler plus.  Wednesday includes 4 x 500 on Ridgeview.  Sunday ended up being a 10 miler.

Saturday was the CO XC State Meet.  On October 15, the coaches poll had the Eagle ladies ranked at 7.  That seemed a bit aggressive to me, and then a only landing fourth in the region made it seem that a top ten finish would be a stretch.  But the girls came through and landed a sixth place finish.

It was a nice day, one of those ones where I wanted to enjoy what it took to get there and recognizing the results at that moment.

I am somewhere around 2060ish miles on the year, so it would seem if I can hold it together, I'd finish with an average of about 200 miles a month on the year.

Week ending 23OCT2022

Monday AM - 3 miles along the sidewalk that is a bit off the north shore.  Slow to rise, but decided rather than just dog the miles, threw in a few one minute pickups.

I forgot to mention that at the CSU race, my watch told me that I averaged 150bpm HR, with a short max at 166 mid race.  I am not sure that is right or if the watch is off in regards to how it measures these things.  It often has my resting HR in the 30s, but my upper HRs in runs has been shown in the 180s.  I dunno.  Not that it matters.

Evening - 4.2 miles on the sand, well at least for part of it.  That is pretty tough.  Caught it before it got too dark.  And it is humid as anywhere I have been.

Tuesday AM - as has become customary ... the day 2 is always a bit tougher to get rolling on the travel trip.  Contemplated staying in bed and not going, but managed to get out at it and listen to some of the new Coheed and Cambria release.  3 miles easy.

PM - 3.5 miles.  Dark, hot, humid and headlights in the eyes.  Meh.  But movement.

Started think about how I used to handle this humidity shit better.  I recall some stupid runs in Israel and Dubuque.  Somehow I'd gut out 10 miles.  It was certainly better trails there than this but I must have been more stubborn about getting the miles.

Wednesday - nada.  Slept in as I was bushed.  Did the engagement dinner thing in the evening (it was nice) so there was not gonna be any running after.

Thursday night.  Got back to the hotel a little sooner so was able to get out for a bit of a longer jaunt but I paid for it.  Total soaked rat at the end of this one.  Squishy shoes and all.

Friday - travel day - and a long one.  Another goose egg.

Saturday - back at it with AM practice for about a half dozen.  Buzzed up to TommyKnocker to play the Burro Banquet - which game me an adequate excuse to not have to lace up for Masters XC over in Boulder.

Sunday - decided it was time to try to get back on the horse after an ineffective week.  10 miles.

A poor training week, but it came with the travel and to a challenging climate for me.

Sunday, October 16, 2022

Week ending 16OCT2022

Monday - just four miles squeezed in but managed some 800s at six minute ish pace and then some 200s faster.  Got my doors blown in by the Eagle ladies.

Tuesday - a touch sore-tired but to be expected.  Coughing my brains out from yesterday's work.  8.1 miles easy.

Wednesday - AM 3 miles.
PM - 6 miles.

Thursday - not much running as was supporting the TT for the Eagles.  Biked some, walked some when flagging the course and then got in 3 miles.

Friday - easy nine.  Probably too much for a day before a harder effort.

Saturday - up to CSU for the Parents Weekend and Homecoming thing.  JZ talked us into to doing the 5k.  I wasn't wholly sure what sort of shape I was in - it could be 23 or 20 minutes.  I figured it wasn't 20 because I hadn't done much since the PE's and I was running about 20 before that.  After a 1.5 mile warm up I gave myself the pep talk to not go out too fast, and to build into it.  So, of course, I botched that.  I was out in 6:20 and I am sure most of that came in the first kilo.  Legit - like everyone - it felt fine until it didn't.  I was fading after that, both physically and mentally I could see how my focus / ability to press was shit.  A 7 minute second mile and then a 6:52 third brought me for the 5K at 20:48.  I was nicely surprised at that and felt the post race motivation of thinking about getting back at training and actually executing.  Great event.  7.5 ish on the day.

Sunday - travel to Puerto Rico - so that was an all day affair.  Managed to get out for 3 after dark.  I thought the beach jogging would be the shizzle but it wasn't great on the soft stuff with the slope in the dark.

Miles will be rough this week given the schedule, and the humidity will be my typical kryptonite.  I'll try to get on a higher intensity lower quantity week in light of that.

Sunday, October 9, 2022

Week ending 09OCT2022

Monday - 6.7 miles.  Started pouring in the last part of this so cut things a bit short.

Tuesday - 8 miles including 4 x 800 on Ridgeview.  Started on the out at 2:57, then did the back up in 3:08, back out in 3.  Not sure on the last as I was coaching a kid through it.  But in any case, I felt this effort later that night.  Might be the most I have done for quality since the blood clot news.

Wednesday AM - 3 miles with GW on the old man loop.
PM - 5 miles easy with the coaches.

Thursday - 8.2 miles, picking it up.

Friday - an 11 mile day with some jogging with folks and at the meet.

Saturday - AM practice.  8.7 miles

Sunday - 12 when done with it.

Good week.  If I can keep on the volume, inject a day a week or two of something quicker, it will be good progress.  Biggest week in terms of volume since early summer and prior to getting the PE's.  I guess in addition to Sage C having the PE's, Adam Chase has had some similar blood clotting issues:  https://www.outsideonline.com/health/running/training-advice/injury-prevention/runners-stroke/

Week ending 02OCT2022

Monday - day got away from me so I only got in a very light four with practice.  A lot of folks I have been around tested positive for COVID so I took a test and got a negative result.  Good band practice.

Tuesday - 9.2 miles, mostly setting up and managing a workout for one of the athletes heading to AZ later this week for a faster 5k.

Wednesday- 8 miles around practice.

Thursday - 8 miles around practice.

Friday - 8.3 miles around practice.

Saturday - 4.4 miles at the Pat Patten meet.  Then off to the Flats for a pretty intimate setting of a show.

Sunday - 8 miles.

50 miles something on the week.
