Week ending 10MAR2024

A bit of a blur of a week as it was a vacation in Ireland.

Monday night - we made it to Dublin on the train and it was just pouring nearly sideways.  I debated going out, but managed to rally and head to Phoenix Park from the Gresham.  The trip out wasn't bad.  Back, I was face into it and so I was fully drenched by the end.  7.1 miles.

Tuesday afternoon - a sunny day (for Ireland standards) and headed to Phoenix Park again.  After a bit of a warm up, I took advantage of the nicer conditions and did minute on minute off reps.  I really didn't tag these.  I just didn't have any pop in my legs, but I ended up moving well on whole on the run.  8.2 miles.

Wednesday afternoon - we headed up to Malahide.  Last time I was here was 8 plus years ago.  I ran the coast trail, and it was good biting wind.  6.4 miles.

Thursday afternoon - 7 miles.  Last run in Ireland after a 3 week tour.  I hit the castle park and did a few loops up tempo.  Legs didn't feel great but I ended up moving ok.   Did a few hill repeats on the hill near the Grand to finish.

Friday was an all day travel day.  I had a twinkle of a thought I'd run when we got home but I was just too beat.

Saturday AM - got in some miles back in CO with GW.  It was good to catch up.  8.9 miles.  Most of the day was then at the Monarch / Centaurus track meet.

Sunday AM - 12.6, with about 5 with GW.  Legs still beat, dealing with some low hydration from the travel and being the sun yesterday.  Easy paced.

On whole, not a bad week, especially with it being a travel week.  Missed the second day for the year on Friday because of travel.  Got a couple of up tempo sessions during the week vs. slogging at 8:30 pace.

Monday 05FEB2023

Friday AM with Syd and GW.  9 miles easy.

Saturday - got a crew over to watch the marathon trials.  Afterwards the snow was heavy and flying.  GW and I got out with Kara.  It was ridiculous conditions and I got a bit cranky after getting walloped by plow snow spray a few times.  7.6 miles.

Sunday mid AM - ridiculous amounts of snow but the path was sorta plowed.

8.1 miles.  Finished the week with 56.8.

Monday 9 miles, moving well - averaged under 8s but had some breaks with the crossings, etc.  Ticked through 300 on the year.

Sunday night played with Spare Change over at Boco Cider.  Tight stage but fun joint.

Monday 21FEB2021

Monday AM - jogged over to the HS with TZ and then another half dozen with the kiddos.  Super windy morning.

Afternoon - 5k with GW and JZ on the ditch.  First time in forever that I can recall getting over 10 in a day.  Ankle is pissed but I feel good.

Weekend ending 14FEB2021

Saturday AM - Below zero at the start of this one. Met up with GW and BV (yes, the former natl. XC champ) and his dog.  JT and MH had workouts and so jogged around while they did that.

It was cold but not too bad with the gear right.  I had a buff, balaclava and hat on the noggin' long sleeve and two running jackets, tights and running pants, wool socks and gloves and mitts

Probably 8 miles all told.  Everybody's watch crapped out - I am assuming because of the cold.

Just an exerciser at this point - not training really as the is not something I am specifically training towards other than keeping some wits in me, and not getting too round.  That may change but the Achilles is not seeming to lend to that, especially on mornings like this.

Sunday mid morning - the high today was like -1, and it was -10 when I woke up.  That is probably the coldest I have seen here in the Front Range (without wind chill).   It is certainly making for quite the ice beard season.

I watched the full 20 (recommended by the Llama) of McConnell's speech.  Certainly left everybody who cares about such matters pissed about something.  Regardless how you feel about it, it is worth the watch, simply to see how he toys with the oratory.

40 miles on the week.  Achilles is still a wreck.

Friday 15JAN2021 "The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton" cover and other blah blah blah

Latest cover.  "Denton" or the "The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton" by the Mountain Goats.  And re-covered by Laura Jane Grace (of Against Me!)  The true end lyrics to that tune are "Hail Satan," apparently to be sung in a Beavis and Butthead fashion. While it is a joke, I recognize it might age well and so I changed it to "Hail Rock and Roll." Gonna look to get another original up by the end of the month.  And I'll see if I can run a cover a week on the music front.

Thursday was a long work day, my hammy was barking and I was not especially happy about it.  I really didn't want to run and I wanted to mire in that a bit.  So that is exactly why I got out for 4 in the dark.  It was the quarter mile up to the middle school track and then laps in the opposite direction on the outside lane.  It was not fast or comfortable, but I was better off for doing it.  I watched Orion rise a bit, and noticed how my eyes got better accustomed to the dark.

I am probably the least run fit I have been in perhaps all my life.  There is some very minor frustration about that, but at the same time, I am truly good with it.  My running now is not about the training for some race or an event but it is really a space I need more for the weak muscle on the top of my neck.  I don't rule out racing again, but there are not any itches to scratch there now.

Friday I got out early and jogged with GW.  The regular Eagles did some light quality work.  The actual season for those kids won't start until May, so nothing super crazy or specific at this point - really, just touching the gas a bit to keep in touch with that, prepare for later preparation, and not just do the same thing everyday.  It is pretty inspiring to see them putting it in day after day.

Week ending 31MAY2020

Monday AM - easy 6.8 with strides around Broomstock with GW.
PM - with KZ, chatting on her training, goals, etc. Very nice. 4.6 miles.  Will pretty much always say yes to these mi

Tuesday PM - warm - in the 80s.  8 x on Eagle Hill from the trash can to the top (so a bit longer than the last couple of weeks).  69 to start and down to 67 at the end.  Probably an 8 effort, but one of those ones where I went steady on number one knowing that by number 4 it would be work.   7.7 miles.

Wednesday AM - an easy 8.1 that was surprisingly at 7:30 pace even though my legs felt a bit heavy from yesterday.  Middle part was with GW and EC as they warmed up for their workout.

Thursday - well, the PPA cancelled.  There is still a chance that PPM will happen but it seems pretty unlikely in my opinion.  Could be a summer of trying to get 5k fit.

Vid from this week's virtual open mic night

Still working on the sound.  It is rough.  I'm gonna see if I can punch it right into the computer the next go around.

PM - 8.5 miles - strides at the end.  Oh yeah it is snake season.

Friday PM - a bit rough.  Wanted to progress over 30 minutes from 6:30 to 6:10 pace but sort of got stuck at 6:20 pace in the second half.   Still better than 2 months ago though.  Hot, I'm probably gonna need to shift to mornings soon.  10.1 miles.

New addition to the fam.  Meet Sage.

Saturday AM - 8.2 with GW round Lac Amora through the hospital.  Pretty tired.

Sunday - contemplated the hills but the legs were pretty beat so I did 13.2 from the house.  Got moving pretty well once I woke up a bit.  Glad to get it done before 10:30 as the heat was starting to crank up.

Good week on whole.  Month ends with 290.7 miles, almost 40 hours, and almost 19k feet.  On the year I sit at 1455 miles, 60k feet and 196 plus hours.  187 runs on the year, 2 off days.  Still on 28 travel nights because of the shut down, but I am clearly enjoying some benefits from that in terms of fitness.
