Week ending 17MAR2024

Not the greatest of weeks for training but got something in.  Coming off of Ireland, I was spinning a bit with living with a 6 hour time change for three weeks, catching up with a bunch of work, a big Colorado storm, band practices to catch up for a weekend gig, getting back to altitude ... I had all the excuses.  But managed through the week ...

Monday - of course I was up stupid early because of jet lag.  8.7 miles to start the day.   Slow.  Barely managed sub 9.

Tuesday - 6.1 around practice and it was a complete poop storm of a practice for me.  But a handful of miles with some strides in the middle.

Wednesday - 7 miles on the day, a few with the coaches before having to bail for band.  Easy running but getting back into the swing of the schedule in Mountain Time.

Thursday - a typical spring storm blew in.  March means heavy wet snow and usually a lot of it.  We'd finish Friday at close to 2 feet.  I got in a lot of shoveling and clearing of trees.  The stuff by the street is the best.  Greg and I slogged through the huge street puddles for some.   8 miles.

Friday - the snow stopped and it actually got nice out.  All the roads were still a mess but got out with Shad for a bit.  We did 7.  I did take a step where I slid on the snow for a few feet that sorta jacked my left knee for a bit (still so on Sunday when I write this).

Gig at Mother Tuckers on Friday night.  It went great,

Saturday - AM with GW, RP and RT as a part of team practice.  10 miles total.  Tired from last night's gig.

Sunday - JZ was home so we got out for 8, and then we came across Neeraj, so I tacked on another handful with him (13 on the morning).  All easy.   Inaugural trip in the Speedlands that Shad connected me up with.

60 miles on the week.  Clicked through 600 on Saturday sometime.

Week ending 11FEB2024

Tuesday - 8.35 miles, doing 200s with the kiddos.

Tuesday night I played my fourth open mic of the season and it was rough.  I tried an original number, "Stardust Lullabye" but it was a bust for me - just ended up not going the way I had rehearsed it.  Weird.  Just in the wrong space mentally with it.

Wednesday - first day off of the year and it was dealt to me.  Long work day, and then band practice in the evening.

Thursday - mid day, legs feeling a bit better with the day off and rolled of a 4.3 averaging 7:40.  High end aerobic so not hard at all.  Later in the afternoon I got another 4.8 with GW and RT

Friday - got 8 on a cold morning around practice

Saturday - snow really flying.  Got out with GW in a slop for 8.5 but super slow.  Saturday night was a Spare Change gig at Rails -

Sunday - warm enough that I could do the short sleeves.  I felt sort of beat - as I often do post gigs - but then I moved pretty well anyway.  8 and another 1.1 with TZ.

Ended the week with 52 and change - not bad for a day off in the mix.  Had a couple of decent moving runs, and the turn over on the track with the kids mid week.  Some progress was made.

Monday 05FEB2023

Friday AM with Syd and GW.  9 miles easy.

Saturday - got a crew over to watch the marathon trials.  Afterwards the snow was heavy and flying.  GW and I got out with Kara.  It was ridiculous conditions and I got a bit cranky after getting walloped by plow snow spray a few times.  7.6 miles.

Sunday mid AM - ridiculous amounts of snow but the path was sorta plowed.

8.1 miles.  Finished the week with 56.8.

Monday 9 miles, moving well - averaged under 8s but had some breaks with the crossings, etc.  Ticked through 300 on the year.

Sunday night played with Spare Change over at Boco Cider.  Tight stage but fun joint.

Sunday 03JAN2021

A good chunk of Saturday afternoon was out in the garage noodling on tunes with TS, BG and CG.  Here is a bit of sound from that.  It is just recorded through the IPad so the sound quality is not great.  We are likely to come up with some tighter recording tech soon.

We do this in the garage with the front open as long as it is warm enough, look to be distant, mask up, etc.  CG and I are doing the guitars, BG and TS are vocals.  We'll bring in the other Spare Change band folks as restrictions ease.

I have been progressing my music practice significantly over the last two years - probably not as much as my first two years of playing when I started as a teen, but probably my biggest growth curve in this space since then.  It has been good for me, the task, the learning, the discipline, etc.

Here is a video of Joe Bonnamassa doing "Mountain Time."  I was playing this recently in the car and family members hadn't heard it - but they had heard us perform it multiple times.  It was stated that they enjoyed Ty's singing of it better than the original.  So there is that.

5.1 miles this AM on the Ditch Ridgeview loop.  Same stuff - painful in the heel, slow jogging.  Sore all throughout the legs - expected as I had not run for six weeks.  But satisfied that I am doing something.

At current I have no aspirations to sign up for a race, or get back to top fitness.  Well, that is not entirely true.  The mind certainly does wander to fancy those things, but realistically, I am not considering them realistically.  Nope - no strides, no intensity, just gonna look to get to a point where I can enjoy the daily jog somewhat ache free.
