Saturday AM - beat the weather coming in and got in 8.1 with Greg on the Lac Amora loop. Nice misty rain.
Got rollin' a bit late with a few seeds.

Completely did not see Kara signing with Oiselle. Maybe because I had never even heard of them. Interesting in seeing runners like this go to companies that are otherwise not big names in the running shoe segment (e.g. Meb to Skechers).
Played around a bit in trying to get some habits back. Mile easy (just under 8) and then mile “steady” with steady meaning … “good speed.” Pushing a bit but at a comfortable pace. Maybe half marathon pace? Or hour pace? I dunno. Not straining. Well, not on the first three. On the fourth I was coming back up into the wind and I mentally slipped and fought it as the body then had an expectation of pace – not effort. And I popped. Stomach breaks and all. I fought the wind and the wind won.
Turned out these were 6:23, 7:33 (the slower pace post a fast pace is always faster than what you thought it would be and feels easier), 6:18, 7:34, 6:18, 7:44, 6:30, 7:34. 12 miles.
This is jacked on multiple fronts. It is probably a little jacked that the CHSAA rule is there – or least how it is written. It is jacked that the kid went and did this race when he is on a team sport and has an obligation to his team and chosing to race outside of that potentially compromises how he could contribute to the team.
But he is a kid. He made a mistake. That happens. It is a teachable moment. There are those things that are a little jacked and you can correct. What is really jacked is it seems that what has learned is that he can say he was “bullied” when having to face consequences and then go sue people and get on TV. His father is jacked in thinking this is worth 400k dollars.
I guess there is still a teachable moment here: you ain’t being bullied. You don’t deserve a dime of anything for this frivolous lawsuit. Cross country is running and that is mostly an individual sport, but it is a team sport. There are rules, and sometimes you might be acting within them, but what you are doing is not the best thing. Good luck. More reactions over in S’OD’s FB.
Indoor seedlings are coming along.
Met up with Bob and did the Bismarck. 16.6 miles. I sort of felt like it was going to be a slog towards the start as the 8:45 pace felt much harder than that. We ended up managing just a few clicks over 8 minute pace on relatively easy running. Certainly would not have done that if Bob was not there. Which is part of why I do it.
Started some stuff outside (lettuce, carrots, spinach). Somethings are getting the start indoors. This is all due to the TZ efforts.
9 miles, easy.
Planted a row of carrots, lettuce and spinach outdoors today. Several other things started by the crumb grabbers indoors.
JZ was at a party at the rec center today, so I took advantage and got in some weight work. This has been my best weight workout yet of ‘11. I was thrashed after several chest exercises, and so I switched over to legs – and really cooked myself when I got to the weighted squats. Two thirds into the workout I had that “holy crap, what hit me feeling.” Expect some good soreness tomorrow.
Week = 70 miles, 9 hours, 3600 vertical
March = 132 miles, 17.5 hours, 7.1 k vertical
2011 = 745 miles, 109.5 hours, and 63k vertical.
Decent week, even though I missed a day (Monday). I was able to still get some decent miles, some turnover. In fact, I am pretty happy with how this week balanced out – some rest, a little longer on a day (not long enough though), some turnover, general consistency and the hour of alternative exercise.
