Pikes for Jornet

Holy crap.

From his blog … The next summer will be quite different to what I have done the last 2 or 3 years, first of all because the U.S. spends much more time, to discover more of its mountains and its inmensitat. In racing, try to run a lot more there, some extremists (who touched the lottery) and prepare the Pikes Peak marathon. In Europe not run so much, probably Zegama to run home, and Transvulcania. It'll no be in Chamonix in late August by the UTMB is a race that already has given me everything and now she could not help them re-gain.
Apart from this, the year will either be the start of a new progecte, personnel, that is what draws me and motivation.

  1. I sure hope folks line up for the marathon next year instead of the ascent. Here's to getting Macias, Randall, Carpenter, and several others to the line on Sunday.

  2. Would love to see him duke it out with Carpenter. That would be epic.

  3. When I translated from his spanish it indicates that he is going to try for "some ultras (those with lotteries)." I wonder which ones he is refering to. Any idea if he is trying for Hardrock?
Would love to see a packed PPM.

  4. His name is not on the Hardrock list. Too bad.

  5. He is going to avoid me in the Ascent!

Let the Matt C rumors begin: he CRUSHED Ruxton Ave on Sunday. Not sure how the rest of his run went but he's not one to start fast and slow down.

  6. Wow! The showdown between Kilian and Matt C. is gonna be epic. Age versus youth, but both are heavily experienced so we'll see what happens. You better believe Kilian will training like a wild man on Pikes--he won't go in cold turkey. Salomon will probably rent him a nice place in town and only a few hundred meters from the Barr Trailhead. Damn.

  7. Also, Kilian needs a new translator :-)

  8. Will be nice to see a stacked field, but I think KJ will run pretty close to the CR. That said, I don't think there will be a battle for the win, but it will be entertaining to witness the splits and see if MC's CR can stand it's first big challenge.

  9. i also noticed the lotteries comment, but thats catalá, not spanish. "¡Visca el Pikes, Visca Catalunya!"

is the hardrock lottery list viewable at this point? it sure sounds like he's on it.

  10. Wyatt - there is your next scoop. Grab an interview with Matt to find out what is up with his kidneys/health, how he is doing, and if he gives a rats ass about racing PPM anytime again soon.

Whether or not Matt physically shows up, everyone will always be racing his ghost. 2:01/3:16.

  11. From what I can see MC has won every PPA/PPM he's raced since 1993, the year he set all the CR's. And even he has only been within 17:00 of his own CR. At his best at 48 I don't think he's anywhere near the 3:16 that I would expect KJ to shoot for.
