  • AM – idyllic morning. Cooler. That slight fog haze just over the ground but clear from the waist up. Sun rising. 6 miles with strides over at BHS track. I am going to try to be more regular with doing strides and so I will measure these to see if there is any improvement over a couple of months. (18.8, 17.9, 17.7, 17.4, 16.9, 17.0, 17.3 – and I missed the last split but the same ball park). Took a 300 jog around the track to assure full recovery. Strides less me feeling good … 46 minutes. Musical choices included Green Day and Miley Cyrus (damn you Brett)
  • Brownie’s first part of his Leadville RR. Tim Parr’s Leadville RR is up … Currently, I’m resting up and preparing for the World Mountain Running Championships, in Italy next week. I’ll be ready. Duncan has an detailed race report as well. If these don't scare you off of Leadville, maybe this will ...
  • PM – six miles. 46 minutes.

  2. Dood, 11 year old or not: no. And if so, say, i don't know, iron maiden?

  3. Puke, puke, puke. Everyone was puking at Leadville this weekend. So are you still thinking about doing this event at some point in the future?

  4. The idea is there but I think I'd want to feel out a few things - like a 50 first.

  5. GZ, you should try Hardrock Jr, the San Juan Solstice!

  6. Thinking about that ... also in the mix is the Collegiate Peaks 50.

  8. Thats what I'm talking about. Give some of those Miley songs a few F-bombs and put a grunge band behind her and she'll double her sales (or instant platinum for whatever band does the remakes).

I'm thinking about SJS next year instead of PPM.

I believe they have never had a full race at the start line race morning, so it would be no rush to decide on it. I'll let you know if my fa tass decides to do that one...right now I'm still working on the wife for the 24 hour ultra next month. I bought flowers, then waited 3 days so she wouldn't make the connection, I watched the kids one night while she went out...but I got this look like 'why the F do you care about stupid crap like that'. So its still a work in progress, lol...

  9. CP is a good first 50 miler, it was my first Colorado ultra. It's two loops though, and sometimes it can be REAL hard to head back out when you see the 25 mile guys sitting around drinking beer.

Next year will mark the first time the new Eddyline Brewery will be open after the race...

  10. I did the CP 25 a few years ago. I imagine that climb back out town is pretty rough.

  11. It's the worst climb of the day, but it's certainly no Hope Pass.

  12. Honestly, George, I felt the return 25 mile trip at CP was easier as long as you just get started right away after the half way (i.e. don't look at other people who just finished and are eating sub sandwiches and lying in the grass). That road run at the end is definitely painful. Though I give this race a 5 out of 10 for worthwhile 50 milers, I give those "5" based on the course only. The course is fun.
Or, if you find a 50 miler that suits you here, you have a place to stay for sure.
