Canaday wins Pikes in 2:10:03. Sage crushed the upper part of the run, with his A Frame to Summit split posting at 38:05. He must have grabbed the lead in the last mile to get the win. He was over 2 minutes off Wacker at Barr, and won in less than a minute difference. Photo from Bethany G off FB.
And I was WAY off with guessing the depth of the field, as 23 went under 2:30. Got to sort of grin at that idiocy on my part. Maybe an omen of sorts. It would have been cool to sitting on the summit to watch this one.
Gutierrez did get the Master’s win as he was 12th – in 2:22. That would land him top ten I think in every year before this year – shows how wrong I was on the depth of the field! Photo from Bethany G off FB.
Allie McLaughlin took the women’s win in 2:33. Photo from Bethany G off FB.
Morning was watching the ethertubes to see how Pikes is progressing, how Leadville is going …
Afternoon … got to Manitou (after listening to this interesting piece while on the way down – the associated read if you are interested is here), hit the tent and got my number. Folks were pouring out of from the Ascent. I did a quick buzz around the expo, but then pushed off. Ran into Don Solberg and we had a competition to see who could come up with the most excuses for a poor race. ;) I hit Alchemy and got some dinner and then hit JT’s house to chill – which included admiring how many freaking running awards this guy has, how many growlers this guy has, and the place is pretty classy on top of it (that part is probably Katie’s doing). And then I tuned back into “watching” Leadville.
So Irunfar must have explicitly decided to NOT cover Leadville at all? Okay.
Enjoy the run tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the same thing on your last point.
It's times like these that you realize how big iRunfar is in the ultra community. If its not covering a race, you basically see and hear nothing about it. The silence is rather deafening, really. And that silence is particularly odd, this being Leadville.
ReplyDeleteThey are not a public organization, and I have not contributed to Bryon's site ... so he can do what he wants. It seems that given how they have covered it in the past, the UROY is in it (and looking like he'd win it), and their history, they are sort of expected to cover it. You can't help but ask if they are making a statement by not covering.
DeleteThat's my assumption.
DeleteThis is what Bryon said about not covering Leadville:
Delete"We're not intentionally ignoring Leadville. When we had to make the call of which race to attend this weekend (and booking the relevant travel), the combined men's and women's fields were more competitive at Squamish. When the Leadville field ticked up late, we looked into finding someone to cover Leadville, but, regrettably, that didn't work out. We independently evaluate each and every event we cover afresh each year. We'll certainly consider covering Leadville again next year".
I'll take him at his word.
Ok - I will go with that.
DeleteHave a great day out there tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill - looks to be a beautiful day so I might take in some views this time!
DeleteI didn't have much interest in Suquamish beyond Ellie and Adam. But that is just me. However they missed covering one hell of a race in Leadville (both the men and women). A lost opportunity IMO.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Leadville was a great race this year, particularly Mackey's steady and impressive progression from 96th at Twin Lakes 1 to 5th at the finish.
DeleteMackey's run was amazing for sure.
