Pikes: Jeff V’s well written Pikes report. Dunlap’s always has fun recaps – this time as a Doubler. It is interesting to look at the prediction page and how folks actually played out. Casual observation is that there are a lot less minuses (below your prediction) than not on that page. Canaday’s has an interview post his PPA win. And then Mark L has a report.
Leadville: still catching up on reports and the like. Nice little video of the front of the race here at Competitor. Elevation Trail and Ultrarunner Podcast have interviews with Aish and Krar respectively. Apparently Krar went off course towards Winfield. He did not backtrack to where he went off course but went approximately a mile longer than what he needed to as he circled around. As I suspected before hearing the interview with Aish, he had no issues with this.
Was yapping on the interether this evening and Nolans came up. While I was muttering yesterday about the number of 100s in Colorado yesterday, almost the opposite tonight… what if this happened: Let’s say the half dozen nut cases that wanted to do Nolans agreed to do it at the same time. They each put 100 bucks in the hat. Winner take all. No registration on ultrasignup or any of that crap but call it a fat dollar ass hat event it you want. They have their crews and their pacers. Start at the same time, last one standing wins (cuz no one might finish).
You could actually do this at all sort of events – and admittedly, I first heard the idea pitched about HR by a very accomplished ultrarunner a few years ago at a 5k. They talked about doing this down there the week before HR. They knew it would mean being black balled from the race after that for life, but they sort of didn’t care because they figured it would be fun, and it certainly meant better odds than the lottery.
It is sort of like your neighborhood poker game. Or at least the ones I have heard about. Everyone pitches into the kitty and it is game on. You don’t need to have a casino to do that, right? Or an established race …
I’d crew it.
7 miles easy.
The mountain bikers do something similar to what you are suggesting (though with no money) on the CT http://www.climbingdreams.net/ctr/ . I am not sure when something becomes official enough to require permits
ReplyDeleteIt might well be that the first rule of fight club thing.
DeleteI think the CT bike race is fairly well known. There is even a movie on the CDT race from several years ago, so they are definitely not very underground.
