I would not recommend doing PPM and then Leadville the next weekend when this would be your first LT100. To me, that is asking for it. Unless you are in top shape.
As for reasons why I say that, you had a mediocre result at one of the easiest 100s in the country and the terrain of it matches your daily training like a twin and should've been in your wheelhouse. Leadville's a different game and, especially for your first time, should be your A1 goal and not a stunt. You'll be hating life - 30 hours is a long time to walk. Just ask any of us who've been forced to do it and there's really no reward internally when you know you can compete in the sub 20 hour range and you're walking into your second sunrise. Just my opinion, of course, but I'd make one of them my goal and actually train specifically for it. Otherwise, you'll be spending two weeks writing blog posts on why you did shitty.
My first attempt and DNF at the LT100 was in 2009, a week after I did the PPA. Not saying that doing PPA was the sole reason for my DNF, it wasn't. Many other and lots of other reasons for that but it certainly did not help. Like Footfeathers said, "you'll be spending two weeks writing blog posts on why you did shitty."
Damn right! I'm psyched for you already. Can't wait to see the posts over this winter.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see you on the leadville course with shot quads after you descend Pikes in 1:40 the week before!
ReplyDeleteHell yeah!

ReplyDeleteDo it!
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with Wyatt. You'll be walking 100 miles. You need to respect the distance more than that.

ReplyDeleteYou should probably do the Boulder 100 again in preparation for Leadville.
ReplyDeletedo the ascent and LT100....
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to all these folks trying to talk sense, life's short, go for it!!!
ReplyDeletePPM + 50 miles of LT100 pacing would be a good combo.
