Wednesday 081314

I expect that it is going to hurt.  Quite a bit.  But I will look to just “move along.”

Yes, cheesy teenage rock but I do have a 16 year old daughter that impacts my musical choices more than I like to give her credit for … well, she sort of knows it.  I mean she turned me onto Muse.  While I have yet to get her to exhaust all the Led Zep collection, or dig Rush’s Moving Pictures she appreciates FF and some older U2.  So, occasionally some Sara Barellis or Coldplay falls into my mix and we meet in the middle on things like Linkin Park, or Blink 182.

Back to the topic at hand however.  It is gonna hurt.  And by that I mean Pikes.  Yup.  This Sunday will be a big owie.  Here are the excuses:  inadequate time at high altitude, inadequate training with hill climbing, inadequate number of long runs, a busy travel schedule, a lack of mental focus on running …

I am not disappointed with any of those.  I knew that was the summer I had chosen, and I was content with those choices.  It does mean however that in my 8th PPM, I will probably be feeling it a bit sooner than I usually do.   And that I will be out there longer than I have come used to.

Of course, I am hopefully that my general consistency of running will pay off, and that by some sort of luck, or my lack of focus will mean some modicum of success.  It could happen, but years of doing this sort of thing tell me it is unlikely to go that way.

No - I expect Sunday to be a bit of a sufferfest.  Cramps as I climb, lots of self talk to try to keep running, some frustration with where I am and where I think I ought to be, some realization that this is exactly what I signed up for, a bit of competitiveness to fight for some arbitrary time, enjoying testing myself on that pile of granite, seeing how others perform … and frankly all that adds up to what I call some fun.

Some video from BV …

My boss is out here in CO for the week as we are interviewing candidates for a position on my team.  Sometimes I think instead of interviews we ought to just do the marshmallow test

Getting kicked down can suck

It was also nice to get to talk with some of the other riders and learn that despite what runners will have you believe, not every single person who can ride a bike is a type A super competitive asshole douchebag.

Honnold is a freak.  Again.

Got the blogroll mostly built back based on adding feeds into from my regular feed reader (as things have come in).  91 feeds now.  I probably have three or four hundred I have hit me on a regular basis in my reader, that include running, but a bunch of other stuff too (work, other interests).

I got “platinum” status at my work’s wellness program.  This is based off a series of point that you get for various activities, including exercise, education, wellness exams, etc.  A daily run net me 10 points.  I needed 15000 points to get to platinum.  The burro races in Fairplay and Leadville got me 500 points each.  The big hitters were things like the wellness exams.  Anyway, it translates into faux money I can use at their store to get things like a digital camera, etc.  Cool.

Afternoon – 4.4 miles.  A bit hot but not bad.
