Pearl Street Mile was last night. I had no inclination to race it, but also did not attend as I had some Cub Scout duties to attend to. I was sort of blown away this AM to see five of the Fleet Feet Masters guys all take the five top spots - all in fairly zippy times. Seeing that definitely lights a bit of a fire. Sub 5 seems a light year away right now. These results turn my head towards getting after that sort of stuff for a bit once I get through this next race.
Of course that means I would have to train as such and I am so much more in a habit right now of getting in some amount of time or mileage a day. Some of that comes out of some level of what is necessary, what I can get. I think I am probably like most. I want to run short and fast, but also shell myself bolting up to a high mountain ridge, touch the sky before ripping back down a canyon to home.
Possible FKT on Longs by Burch.
AM – 4 miles along the ditch.
This is a great post about Pikes by an age group record holder.
More good stuff on electrolytes.
PM - LOSH, a short hill with crappy footing, pitching to 13 percent. 8 of these, with the efforts around 70 seconds. Happened to be in the neighborhood picking up a free pair of running shoes from PI that I won from the CTC challenge last year. Still had the coupon. Used to do this hill all the time when our office was over in Louisville. Glad to see that it is still around, but ... I used to do it quicker. :) 7 miles. Hot.
I bet you could go under 5 today.
ReplyDeleteI deffinitely don't want to run 'short and fast' like most. Too painful!
It would take some dedicated committed work that I have not been doing regularly. I occasionally do 200s in the 36-37 range and they are pretty tough for me just on their own. I'd have to average that for 8 of 'em without rest. It is in there, but I just have not done the work lately to tap that. The question - as you and I have discussed - is if I am willing to change what I do to to do that work and get that result. Really - I am honest enough with myself to say I am a bit doubtful.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm pretty unmotivated with certain types of running. Track work is akin to getting a tooth pulled for me. I've been enjoying my tapper running routine this week; hour or so at pretty easy pace where I don't have to think about what I'm doing, either in prep or during. Been the highlight of my days this week.
ReplyDeleteSub five is a whole different animal. I could maybe go 5:15 right now, which is a world away from 4:59 for such a short distance. Maybe in the upcoming offseason we can all get together at a track and race a mile.
ReplyDeleteI'll race the mile if beer is involved.
ReplyDeleteOn that note, lets just have a EPO mile...
ReplyDeleteNo love for the mile!
ReplyDeleteJostling for position, bumping against collegiate runners, knowing the front-runners are going to blow you away but at least still being able to see them, drafting, not worrying about food or drink or gear or gadgets or weather changes or sunrises or sunsets, hearing those splits.
Not getting lost.
For being on a road, there is some refreshing purity in it!
We can do a "serious" mile and then do a beer mile!
