The final version of the most recent coyote research report is now available on the Broomfield City web site. This research was conducted this past winter, partly initiated in response to coyote on human bite events that occurred in the Anthem neighborhood last summer. That in turn resulted in about a half dozen coyotes being “lethally removed.”
The report is 38 pages so it is going to take me a bit of time to get through it, but via a quick scan, a couple of things popped out at me. First there is belief that the bite incidents last year were all from one coyote. Additionally, there are recommendations to further enforce dog leash laws, potentially close certain trails at certain times, and possibly look to regulate attractants (open trash for example … but also bird feeders or fruit trees). Should be interesting to see how this plays out.
